Get Ready to Jailbreak iPhone 4

With iOS 7 now coming up for its seventh month since release, there are still a number of users who have not yet got round to or have not decided whether to jailbreak iPhone 4.   There are a number of great reasons why you should go ahead and jailbreak – the customization and modification reasons alone should be enough for most people!

If you are seriously thinking about installing the iPhone 4 jailbreak, there are a number of things you should do BEFORE you jailbreak. Your iPhone 4/4S must be ready to receive the software otherwise you will encounter a number of problems along the way and the jailbreak may not be successful. So, without further ado:

Check that your iPhone is compatible with the jailbreak software
You would surprise how many people go ahead and jailbreak iPhone 4S without determining compatibility. Not all jailbreak software will work on all iPhone so you need to make sure that yours is compatible first.

A simple way to check is to contact your jailbreak provider or the developer – they will tell youwhether the iPhone 4S jailbreak is suitable for you or not.

Back up a list of your existing Cydia tweaks

If you already have a jailbreak and this is the next one up for you, back up your Cydia tweaks using PkgBackup. This is an app in Cydia that backs up a list of your existing Cydia tweaks so that you can download them again easily enough.

While you are at it, before you jailbreak iPhone 4S, make sure that the tweaks and aps you have are compatible with the new jailbreak software.

Update your iPhone

You should now update your iPhone 4 to the latest version of iOS firmware – but only if it can be jailbroken. If it can’t then you will just be wasting your time, as you will not be able to go any further. If you can update your firmware, DO NOT USE THE OTA METHOD.
Over the Air updates are not compatible with the iPhone 4 jailbreak software and will cause you no end of problems – that is if the jailbreak is even successful.  Always use iTunes for updating the firmware.

Clear your iPhone of Junk

Before you jailbreak iPhone 4S you must make sure there is sufficient space for the jailbreak software to work. Go through your iPhone 4/4S and remove all unwanted files and data – empty cache files off and any temporary internet files. Delete duplicate videos, music tracks and photos and get rid of any apps that you do not use any more.
To be on the safe side, you could remove all your media files and place them onto an external storage source.

Back up – twice if necessary

The next step in the iPhone 4 jailbreak procedure is to back up the data on your iPhone. First of all, do this through iTunes and back the data up to your computer. Then repeat it through iCloud, just to make sure you have at least twobackups of all of your data.
This is an important step because, should anything go wrong or you need to restore your device at any stage, you will lose everything on it.

Install the iPhone 4/4S jailbreak

Once your iPhone is ready for jailbreaking, go ahead and buy your software.  Choose carefully – you do not want to wind up with problems before you even get to jailbreak iPhone 4.
A few tips include:

  • ·         Avoid free software. If, by some small chance it does work, it will not be trouble free and will be slow
  • ·         Avoid websites that keep flashing up ads
  • ·         Avoid websites that want you to download a free app or fill in a survey first – they are fraudulent sites that will serve only to line the pockets of the website owner – you will get nothing in return
  • ·         Choose a provider that is trustworthy – a little bit of research will root out the good from the bad
Last but not least, when you have your iPhone 4/4S jailbreak software, install it and enjoy the fruits of your labors.
